On November 11th of this year, we lost our humble President and brilliant colleague Dr. Ned Sacktor following his valiant struggle with cancer. Dr. Sacktor was a highly accomplished neurological researcher, teacher, and practitioner who joined the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as an Instructor in 1994, and was promoted to Professor in 2009. A member of the World Neurology Foundation Board of Directors since 2009, Dr. Sacktor served as President from 2016 to 2020. His leadership was key to the implementation of the Foundation’s Toolkits for Africa project, premised on an awareness of profound needs of African healthcare providers for basic neurological assessment tools which surfaced during his extensive work with HIV/AIDS neurology in Uganda. Dr. Sacktor’s advocacy for high quality, no-cost, open source training materials to be provided to low resource regions globally has been translated into action through the Foundation’s current Neuroshare program.
