The Dr. Ned Sacktor Fund for Global Neurology

On November 11th of this year, we lost our humble President and brilliant colleague Dr. Ned Sacktor following his valiant struggle with cancer. Dr. Sacktor was a highly accomplished neurological researcher, teacher, and practitioner who joined the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as an Instructor in 1994, and was promoted to Professor in 2009. A member of the World Neurology Foundation Board of Directors since 2009, Dr. Sacktor served as President from 2016 to 2020. His leadership was key to the implementation of the Foundation’s Toolkits for Africa project, premised on an awareness of profound needs of African healthcare providers for basic neurological assessment tools which surfaced during his extensive work with HIV/AIDS neurology in Uganda. Dr. Sacktor’s advocacy for high quality, no-cost, open source training materials to be provided to low resource regions globally has been translated into action through the Foundation’s current Neuroshare program.

GoFundMe Campaign

The incidence of undiagnosed and untreated neurological disorders in the world's most resource-deprived countries leads to countless cases of preventable suffering, mainly due to many health care providers not having access to very basic equipment and education. For over 20 years, the World Neurology Foundation (WNFO) has served over 26 of these countries, improving patient care by providing medical equipment, educational resources and expertise at no cost to health care professionals.

The WNFO "Toolkits for Africa" initiative was started as a way to provide the most basic medical equipment used in a standard neurology examination, from a stethoscope and reflex hammer to stroke scales and eye charts. The WNFO has contributed hundreds of toolkits over the past decade to African physicians and clinical officers, impacting patient care in 14 different countries.

At the current time, we have urgent requests for Toolkits from numerous regions including Uganda, Malawi, and Zambia. We invite you to join us in making these donations a reality by offsetting our costs to obtain equipment and assure shipping directly to those providers in need. The $5000 goal of this campaign will provide over 50 Toolkits to 10 different regions, impacting neurological care and alleviating suffering for thousands of adults and children in these low-resourced countries.  The WNFO is a 501(c)(3) charity organization, and your donation is tax-deductible.

On behalf of our Board of Trustees and Staff, we thank you sincerely for your support!
